SEVENOAKS IBC. v THE ANGEL IBC. LADIES KL. Saturday 3rd December

SEVENOAKS 3. THE ANGEL 7.

Sevenoaks Ladies defeated The Angel on the green in this five rink game by 3-2 but two heavy defeats meant the shots victory went to our visitors.

Captain of the day, Marian Greenouff, and her team of Kristina Williams, Diana Purssell and Sue Wallis recorded a very satisfying win over the visiting captain’s team 21-10.  After losing the two opening ends, they soon took the initiative and stretched their lead as the game went on.

Barbara Taylor, Sally Garvey, Audrey Franks and Brenda Bennett were 5-5 after 6 ends and two down on the next end when Audrey played the shot of the day.  A runny bowl took the jack back to three waiting Sevenoaks woods on the edge of the ditch.  Now 4 shots up, Brenda added a further two which opened up a 12-5 lead and the Sevenoaks foursome went on to win 19-15.

The most exciting game of the day involved Joyce Allen, Anne Farley, Lynn Thomson and Rosemary Tuck.  A slow start saw them 0-6 after 5 ends before they finally opened their account but they could make little headway, and were 8-14 in arrears with two ends to play.   Suddenly the magic touch appeared and they picked up 5 shots to go into the final end 13-14.   Holding one shot when skip Rosemary went to bowl, she nudged an opposition wood back to make two shots.   The Angel skip appeared to bowl the perfect wood into a crowded head but it finished a yard past the jack having sailed through the smallest of gaps.   Rosemary’s final wood did not change anything giving the opposition skip another opportunity to save the day, but this time she fell short and Sevenoaks, much to their surprise, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat!

Brenda.
