SEVENOAKS IBC v OYSTER IBC. Ladies KL. Wednesday 1st February

Sevenoaks Ladies 8 Oyster 2
87 shots to 77

Another famous victory for the ladies and a very rare success over the strong Oyster Club.    Four ladies withdrew from the original team – with good reason.  Fortunately there were two named reserves who came into the side and it only took three phone calls to find two more willing ladies to step into the breach and save the day.

Sevenoaks were successful on three of the five rinks.  Captain of the day, Brenda Bennett, along with Dot Fuller, Anne Farley and Jane Taylor achieved a convincing 28-12 win against the Oyster captain’s rink thanks to a fine burst of scoring after the mid-way cup of tea.   Linda George, Mel Bridges, Joy-Ann Hemmings and skip Anne Welch won 12 of the 18 ends for their satisfying 19-12 victory.

Shirley Christian, Sylvie Crabb, Mary Gardner and Joan Moffat trailed 2-7 after 7 after six ends and eventually levelled the scores on the 14th end at 11-11.   On the 18th and final end, with a 14-14 scoreline, skip Joan confidently bowled her first bowl right up to the jack, shot wood!  It could not be bettered, another win for Sevenoaks.

Skips Sue Wallis and Ann Monro both lost by a modest amount of shots which were easily covered by the three winning rinks.   Anne Brinkley made her Kent League debut and enjoyed the experience, we hope to see her name down again.
