SEVENOAKS IBC v FOLKESTONE IBC Saturday 5th March 2022

Team captains Brenda Bennett and Rosemary Tuck were extremely pleased to get 20 ladies for the previously agreed 5 rinks away to Folkestone.  Sue Wallis skipped our only winning rink with  Kristina Williams, Pam Stanley and Eve Strudwick and were in the lead all the way taking it to a 23 –12 victory.  Very well done ladies.  Avril Moss’s team were clearly up against strong opposition as despite getting 14 shots, more than any of our other teams, they received the pens from the opposition!   We are pleased to have fulfilled our commitments to one of our further distant opponents, albeit with an overall score of 122-68 to Folkestone.

Yardstick Competition, 6th March 2022.

The Yardstick competition took place yesterday.

There was some excellent bowling; Jonny Johnstone beat Murray Brown in the main competition and Anne Welch beat Ray Fuller in the plate.
Many thanks to those who participated and helped through out.

We hope everyone enjoyed themselves and hope it has encouraged some into signing up for other matches and competitions

SEVENOAKS IBC LADIES v FOLKESTONE IBC LADIES. Wed 23rd February

In this five rink game, Sevenoaks were successful on two rinks.  Kristina Williams, Linda Fleming, Sally Garvey and Joan Moffatt trailed 10-14 after 12 ends but then never looked back.  A run of five consecutive winning ends put them 20-14 in the lead and they went on to win 24-17.  Brenda Bennett, on the captain’s rink, supported by Dot Fuller, Val Stevens and Mary Gardiner comfortably disposed of the opposing captain’s rink 25-9.

Skip Anne Welch went into the final end trailing 15-16 but drew the shot to level the scores.   However, her second bowl nudged the shot wood and after a lengthy session of measuring, a tied end was agreed and therefore a narrow defeat for Sevenoaks.

At the beginning of the match when the names went up on the scoreboard, all the letter N’s were used, eleven in all, quite a lot by Sevenoaks as we have an Anne, Ann and Lynn to start with.  This meant opposition skip Sandra was shown on the board as SA DRA.  However, someone used their initiative and with the use of three of the letters ‘I’ make up another N!

NEW COVID19 PROTOCOL- Our Way Forward

As of Thursday 27th January the government have confirmed that there will no longer be a legal requirement to wear a face covering when entering or circulating in the Club.

However, they do recommend that people should continue to wear them in enclosed spaces.  We concur with this advice and that of the EIBA (English Indoor Bowling Association) and strongly recommend that we all continue to follow the protocol currently in place,  It would be appreciated therefore, for your own protection and the protection of other members, that you continue to wear a face mask other than when eating or drinking or when playing on the rink.

It is also requested that you continue to use the hand sanitisers placed throughout the club, including at either end of the rinks.

Your co-operation  is much appreciated.

Many thanks

Richard Purssell

SEVENOAKS IBC LADIES v DARTFORD STONE LODGE IBC. Saturday 5th February

A fine performance from the ladies saw them achieve their first victory of the season.   Originally a 5 rink game, DSL could only field 4 rinks so forfeited 10 shots and 2 points.

Sevenoaks were successful on three rinks and lost narrowly on the fourth.  Highest scoring rink of Dot Fuller, Diana Purssell, Anne Welch and Brenda Bennett lost the first two ends but never looked back after that, winning comfortably 33-6.

Sue Wallis (21-16) and Jane Taylor (22-12) skipped the other two winning rinks, while Ann Munro’s team led17-13 only to lose the last three ends and dropping 6 shots.
