Sevenoaks IBC v Prince Arthur IBC. Ladies KL. Wednesday 28th February 2024

SEVENOAKS 6  – PRINCE ARTHUR 6
72 SHOTS TO 84

A very competitive afternoon of bowling with honours even at the end of play 6-6, although one heavy loss for Sevenoaks played a big part in the overall shots defeat.

However, looking on the bright side, Sevenoaks won on three of the five rinks with the best effort of the day coming from Cynthia Gaston, Angela Checksfield, Barbara Taylor and Ann Welch.   They romped into a 12-4 lead but four dodgy ends allowed the opposition to reduce the gap to 12-9 before the home team regained the initiative and won with a bit to spare 17-11.

Dot Fuller, Val Stevens, Rosemary Tuck (Captain of the Day) and Sue Wallis seemed to be well in control when leading 14-6 after 10 ends.  Prince Arthur rallied to close the gap to 15-14 but a tense last couple of ends saw Sevenoaks pick up a further 3 shots for an
18-14 victory.

It took Joyce Allen, Sharon Funnell, Sally Garvey and Brenda Bennett 14 ends before they took the lead.   Winning three consecutive ends saw them move ahead 15-11 only to play their only disastrous end of the day, dropping 5 shots to trail again 15-16.   A single on the next end levelled the scores with one end to play.   Joyce and Sharon each played a wonderful bowl inches from the jack which the opposition could not disturb, another shot was added and Sevenoaks were home 19-16.
