Sevenoaks v KCIBA. Wednesday 29th November.

We had a great day playing against KCIBA today. The result didn’t go our way, with the experience of the County bowlers shinning through on some rinks. The overall score was 142-93, bit we did have 2 winning rinks and 1 rink that only lost on the last end. Our top rink bowlers were Charlie Keeling, Steve Wellbelove, Richard Phillips and Skip Derrick Rodgers (Richard came in as cover this morning). As captain I’d like to thank Steve, Nigel, and Sally for their help today, and Derrick for his support. I look forward to future club games and hope our men keep putting their names forward for games

Sevenoaks IBC v Mote park. KL. Wednesday 29th November

KENT LEAGUE 29th November MOTE PARK 8  SEVENOAKS 4
105 shots to 56

The ladies first win of the season was 8-4 at home to Mote Park.  The Maidstone team gained their revenge with the same score, but well done to the two rinks who were successful.

Jenny Barnes, Captain Lynn Thomson, Joy-Ann Hemmings and Ann Munro took a 10-2 lead after 9 ends but then a series of single shots from the opposition closed the gap to 10-9.   A confident final two ends saw Sevenoaks regain the initiative and clock up a further 5 shots for their 15-9 victory.

The Mote Park bowling carpet is relatively new and still a bit pushy but Sally Burton, Diana Purssell, Mary Gardiner and Anne Welch coped well.  They opened up a 13-10 lead going into the last end and then contained the opposition to a single shot for a fine win.

A 6 shot defeat suffered by Skip Ann Moss, plus two heavy defeats by skips Brenda Bennett and Sue Wallis, contributed a rather dismal overall shots loss.

Sevenoaks IBC v Petts Wood BC. Friendly. 25th November 2023

We had a very pleasant afternoon of bowls against Petts Wood although the outcome was in their favour.

Overall score: Sevenoaks 66 Petts Wood 100

Peter Harling, Barbara Taylor and Terry Igg gave us our one winning ring.  Trailing for 12 ends they overtook PW to achieve a score of 21-10.

Russell H, Jeanette K and Sharon Fuller were ahead for the first half but after tea PW rallied and gradually gained points ending with a narrow defeat. Score 17-21.

Our other three team suffered similar result.   All started well but were quickly overtaken by PW and despite their best efforts were unable to claw the points back.

Mel Bridge, Myself and Phil Pikes Score 8-26

Richard P, Marian G and Les G Score10-31

Peter R, Wyn R and Miles W 10-23.

Well done and my thanks to all the players on the day.

MASONS TROPHY 1st Round – Match Report. Friday November 24th.

SEVENOAKS LADIES 26 THE ANGEL 35

An early exit unfortunately from the Mason Trophy, a double rink competition for those ladies who admit to being over the age of 60!

A fine performance from Diana Purssell, Joy-Ann Hemmings, Ann Welch and Brenda Bennett saw them secure a narrow victory 17-13 at Sevenoaks.
The team playing away could make little headway on the Tonbridge green and went down 9-22.

Sevenoaks IBC v Angel IBC – MASONS TROPHY 1st Round. Friday November 24th.

Friday morning’s Mason Trophy match for ladies over the age of 60 against The Angel ended with theTonbridge team successful by 35 shots 26.

The home rink of Diana Purssell, Joy-Ann Hemmings, Ann Welch and Brenda Bennett enjoyed a very tight game, just maintaining a slight advantage throughout in their 17-13 victory.  Unfortunately the away rink went 1-8 down after 5 ends and could make little headway on The Angel green, eventually going down 9-22.

Immediately the game on the Sevenoaks rink finished, an army of willing helpers entered the bowling arena with their hoovers, dusters, cleaning rags, etc. and did the most wonderful job.  Not only were the surrounds and ditches cleaned but also the lounge area, chairs brushed and numerous other places were wiped down.   In addition, Derrick Rodger and his mate, Dave, hoovered the bowling green.

An absolutely wonderful turnout  – thank you so much to everyone who helped.

Sevenoaks IBC v Folkstone IBC. Ladies KL. Wednesday 22nd November

FOLKESTONE LADIES 12 v SEVENOAKS LADIES 0
119 SHOTS TO 56

After a successful start to the season with two Kent League victories over Mote Park and The Royals, the ladies were well and truly beaten by a strong Folkestone team.   A white wash in fact, 0-12. losing on all five rinks.

However credit to rinks skipped by Ann Munro and Sue Wallis who both only lost narrowly 15-17. Sue’s team recovered well from 1-10 down after 7 ends, while 6 shots on the last 2 ends gave a respectable score to Ann’s quartet.

Sevenoaks are extremely lucky that we have a small number of ladies who are prepared to drive us to these games – on this occasion a big thank you to Joan, Ann, Joy-Ann, Lynn and Shirley.

Sevenoaks IBC v The Royals IBC. Ladies KL. Wed 8th November

KENT LEAGUE
SEVENOAKS LADIES 8 THE ROYALS 4
86 shots to 66

Another successful match for the ladies, clocking up their second successive Kent League win of the season.   In a 5-rink game, they won on 3 rinks and lost on 2 rinks, but only by 1 shot and 3 shots.

Captain of the day, Brenda Bennett, skipped her rink of Diana Purssell, Jeannette Kisnorbo and Joan Moffat to a convincinv 25-11 over her opposite number.   The score was 11-11 after 12 ends but The Royals ladies failed to score again.  Angela Checksfield, Mary Gadiner, Rosemary Tuck and Ann Welch trailed 10-14 at 13 ends but a strong finish saw them pick up a further 10 shots for a 20-15 victory.

Sharon Funnell, Lynn Thomson, Avril Moss and skip Jane Taylor retained the initiative throughout for an excellent team success 16-12.

After 14 ends had been played, the scoreboard showed Sevenoaks narrowly leading 57-52.  The half way cup of tea worked its magic as Sevenoaks put on the pressure over the last few ends for a well-earned 86-67 shots victory.
