Beckenham, Bromley & District Bowls Assoc (BBDBA). Mixed Friendly. 8th January 2020

This game got off to a tight start, with the score at 6 ends 44-45, we gained momentum and  at 12 ends were leading 106-76, with BBDBA continuing to struggle Sevenoaks went on to secure a win at 18 ends of 166-112.   It was as usual conducted in a nice friendly atmosphere, winning 7 triples and just losing on 1.   The Top Rink was won by Peter Hicks, Ann Munro and Gerald Gardiner. Well done.

ASHFORD. Mens Kent League. Sunday 5th January

Yes, it was a special day for us men on Sunday, as we had 6 full rinks playing, (first time in a while), and we won on one rink.

The final score on Sunday was 184 Ashford and 65 Sevenoaks. On one rink we lost 62 – 4. On our winning rink our 4 players were Brian Akery (skip), Brian George, David Leaver and Tony Garvey and the score was 22- 16 so well done

Ashford had won away the previous day 9 – 1, so we were in good company..

THE ROYALS. Ladies Kent League. January 5th 2020

The ladies put up a good show in their first Kent League match of 2020 against The Royals but went down narrowly by 118-102 and 4-2 on the rinks.

Clare Jolley, Angela Checksfield, Anne Welch and Brenda Bennett trailed for most of their game but finished extremely strongly winning 15 shots over the last five ends for a 25-17 victory. Dot Fuller, Lynn Thomson, Mary Burch and Marian Greenouff held the initiative throughout winning 20-14.

Skip Ann Munro lost by 2 shots.   Margret Elsdon was level 16-16 at 17 ends and Eve Strudwick 12-12 also at 17 ends, although both rinks fell away over the latter stages.

Angel. Ladies Kent League. Wednesday 11th December 2019

Having obtained a good result on our home match we were hoping to repeat it Away.  Alas this was not to be.   Angel were in good form on their home rinks,  they quickly took the lead across four rinks and held them.  Margaret Elsdon, Sally Garvey, Linda Fardell, and Angela Checksfield had a good game reaching the final end one point up.  Unfortunately Angel scored two point on this end pipping them to a win.  It was not a total wipe-out.   Brenda Bennett, Val McNally, Diane P and Clare Jolley won their rink, winning by 5 shots

Overall score Angel 150 – Sevenoaks 78

Points 9/1.

Mote Park. Mens Kent League . Sunday 8th December

Sevenoaks men again struggled to get a team together but did manage to take 5 rinks to Maidstone, albeit with one last-minute absentee.  Unfortunately however, although it proved an enjoyed afternoon, we were again outplayed and lost all rinks with a final result of 49-159.

Our least bad rink was the short rink of Brian Akery, Mike Langford and David Taylor who, before the penalty deduction, lost by only 5 shots.

Thanks to all those who played – to you and all other men the captains would urge you to sign up for future matches in the New Year.

MASON TROPHY. MOTE PARK. 2nd Round 7th December

After the euphoria of a brilliant first round victory in this competition, the ladies were brought down to earth by Mote Park, although not disgraced.  The home quartet of Clare Jolley, Sue Wallis, Anne Welch and Brenda Bennett kept their noses in front throughout just clinching a close win 15-13.    However, this was not sufficient as Margaret Elsdon’s away foursome went down by 8 shots, leaving Mote Park with a 6 shots overall victory.

WHITE OAK. YETTON PLATE 2nd ROUND. 22nd November

The two away rinks skipped by Margaret Elsdon and Anne Welch put up a good show despite going down 16-24 and 18-24 respectively.  The two home teams skipped by Brenda Bennett and Eve Strudwick disappointed, failing to take advantage of the Sevenoaks venue.   The opposition were considerably superior on the day, but we kept smiling!

ANGEL IBC. Kent League. Sunday 1st December

Oh dear, so near yet so far, still looking for our first points.
John Biles team were going so well, so far in front, then the last few ends Angel came back with two good ends and John lost by 5 shots
Mick Adnett didn’t have a good start trailing by quite a few shots but they stuck at it, Only losing by 3 shots.
The captain’s rink should have won, would be holding shot or more than 1 some ends, Only for the Angel skip to come in and take the shot, they lost by 6 shots.
The other two teams lost by quite a few. The final score Sevenoaks 60 Angel 139.
It was still a good game but having said that we only took 4 rinks, if only more players would sign up for the league we could take 5 rinks, instead of starting off -10 shots before a bowl has been played!
