WHITE OAK. YETTON PLATE 2nd ROUND. 22nd November

The two away rinks skipped by Margaret Elsdon and Anne Welch put up a good show despite going down 16-24 and 18-24 respectively.  The two home teams skipped by Brenda Bennett and Eve Strudwick disappointed, failing to take advantage of the Sevenoaks venue.   The opposition were considerably superior on the day, but we kept smiling!

ANGEL IBC. Kent League. Sunday 1st December

Oh dear, so near yet so far, still looking for our first points.
John Biles team were going so well, so far in front, then the last few ends Angel came back with two good ends and John lost by 5 shots
Mick Adnett didn’t have a good start trailing by quite a few shots but they stuck at it, Only losing by 3 shots.
The captain’s rink should have won, would be holding shot or more than 1 some ends, Only for the Angel skip to come in and take the shot, they lost by 6 shots.
The other two teams lost by quite a few. The final score Sevenoaks 60 Angel 139.
It was still a good game but having said that we only took 4 rinks, if only more players would sign up for the league we could take 5 rinks, instead of starting off -10 shots before a bowl has been played!

The Angels. Ladies Kent League. Saturday 30th November.

Sevenoaks Ladies 7 – The Angel 3
106 shots to 105.
Three winning rinks skipped by Marian Greenouff, Sally Burton and Brenda Bennett.   Captain of the day, Avril Moss, only went down 16-17.

Those are the facts, but Sevenoaks almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.   The overall scores were neck and neck throughout the match (how did we manage before an electronic scoreboard) until Sevenoaks edged ahead by ten shots at best with the game almost over.

Somehow two of the home rinks then managed to drop ten shots between them over the last two ends to give Angel a 104-105 lead with Sally Burton’s rink one shot down and only the skips to bowl in the last game to finish.  Truly nail-biting stuff.

The Angel skip’s first bowl was wide, Sally produced a wonder bowl to draw the shot:
105-105 .  The Angel skip’s second bowl was wide.  EVERYONE was watching Sally’s final bowl and, would you believe, she drew another perfect bowl for victory followed by a wild burst of cheering from home supporters.  How did she manage that, wonderful, what a match!

MENS v KCIBA Wednesday 27th November

Sevenoaks men endured a torrid afternoon against Kent County IBA losing by 71 to 160, although the match was played in a very good spirit. Thanks to a stirling effort by Peter Moore, Dave Pearce, George Thompson and Andrew Medhurst we did manage to draw one rink 18 shots each.

Greenwich. Mixed Friendly. 24 November 2019

Again the atmosphere was good but the Greenwich team struggled, Sevenoaks went on to win on all 7 triples with a score at the end of 171-56.

I have to say thank you to all the players who participated given that these two matches were back to back and in spite of three players dropping out quite late we played only one short on the Greenwich .game.

Petts Wood. Mixed Friendly. 23 November 2019:

This was the first time Petts Wood have played as a team here.   It was as usual conducted in a nice friendly atmosphere.   The going was tight with the score at half time 48-48.  I had to come off after 14 ends due to still being unwell following our ladies match at Folkestone, but the Sevenoaks team went on to secure a win of 108-95, winning 3 triples and losing 3 triples so very well done.

MASON TROPHY (double rink for ladies over 60) Sevenoaks v Dartford Stone Lodge. Friday 22nd November

A fantastic morning of bowls from Clare Jolley, Sue Wallis, Anne Welch and Brenda Bennett with pretty well everything going their way as they recorded a 33-5 victory on the home green.

Joy-Ann Hemmings, Sally Garvey, Margaret Elsdon and Ann Munro had a completely different game, finding difficulty coping with the green, as they went down by 22 shots, although this still left Sevenoaks successful overall by 6 shots
