Sevenoaks IBC v Folkstone. Ladies KL.

We managed to get 1/2 point as Joan’s rink of Joan, Jane Taylor, Anne Farley and Sally Burton managed to draw with Joan’s very last wood drawing shot to level at 17-17. As Folkestone are a strong team and we were playing away, even 1/2 point is an achievement. Well done Joan’s rink.

Final Score: Folkstone 109 – Sevenoaks 61

Yetton Trophy 2nd Round. Sevenoaks v Folkstone IBC. Saturday 19th Nov

Sevenoaks Ladies put up a good fight against the strong Folkestone Club, batting well on three rinks but suffering a heavy defeat on the fourth. The two rinks skipped by Ann Munro and Sue Walis on the away green excelled.  Munro’s foursome managed a 20-20 draw having led 20-15 after 18 ends.  Wallis’s rink were level 15-15 after
18 ends but slipped to a 15-18 defeat.  Nevertheless a fine performance after the long trip to Folkestone.

On the home green, Brenda Bennett’s ladies were slow off the mark and found themselves 0-9 down after 7 ends and 1-13 after 9 ends.   However, they finally managed to find some good form, won 9 of the next 14 ends and gave Folkestone a scare in the process.   Three shots on the final end to Sevenoaks gave them a very respectable 15-18 scoreline.

Unfortunately the other home rink suffered a heavy defeat, their players shall be nameless!

SEVENOAKS IBC v THE ROYALS IBC Ladies. KL. Wednesday 9th November

Sevenoaks 59  — The Royals 85
This was the second match of the season with a trial start time of 12.30 and only playing 18 ends. As the  Royals were only able to bring 4 rinks we had 10 shots on the score board before the game commenced. It was a game of two halves the first 9 ends the score was fairly even but after that the Royals pulled away to win the match 8 points to Sevenoaks 2.
The only winning rink for Sevenoaks  was the Captains;   Brenda Bennett and Anne Farley had  a really good game playing skip and number 3 respectively, with Joy-Ann Hemmings at 2 and Dot Fuller lead.

YETTON TROPHY 1st Round. Saturday 5th Nov

SEVENOAKS LADIES 92 DARTFORD STONE LODGE 78. Although every shot was important, this game was primarily won by the two teams that played on the away rink, both scoring comfortable victories.   Skip Sue Wallis and her ladies excelled with their 31-13 trouncing of the opposition, while Ann Munro’s rink were equally impressive winning 29-18.

It was a different story on the Sevenoaks green with both teams under pressure.   Jane Taylor’s foursome came up against a very strong DSL rink and despite their best efforts, suffered a depressing 8-25 loss.   After 11 ends, Brenda Bennett and her ladies were trailing 7-18, but boosted by the good news coming through from Dartford, they bucked up their ideas, improved their game, and achieved a very satisfying 24-22 win.

Folkestone will be the opposition in Round 2 of the Yetton Trophy.

SEVENOAKS IBC v MOTE PARK IBC. Ladies KL. Wednesday 26th Oct.

SEVENOAKS LADIES 8 – MOTE PARK 2 (86 SHOTS FOR, 77 AGAINST)

What a fantastic start to the Kent League season.   Despite two late withdrawals, Jenny Barnes and Sally Garvey were at the ready to step into the breach.   The ladies, sporting their new team shirts generously supplied by Martin Hammond and his MB Motors company, were quickly off the mark and took an early lead which they maintained throughout.   This was the first KL game played under the new rule of only 18 ends rather than 21 as previously, and five rinks rather than 6.   After 15 ends, Sevenoaks were leading by 21 shots overall (74-53) and despite a belated effort from Mote Park to close the gap, the home team reached the winning post by 87 shots to 77. Sevenoaks were successful on three of the five rinks.   Dot Fuller, Jeanette Kisnorbo, Eve Strudwick and Brenda Bennett had one of those days when almost everything went right, romping home 23-13.  Marian Greenouff, Sally Garvey, Joy-Ann Hemmings and Anne Welch had an equally successful game, winning 20-14.  The third win came from Jenny Barnes, Jessie Thomson, Rosemary Tuck and Sue Wallis 16-14.   Skip Joan Moffat only lost by a single shot, and Ann Munro by 6 shots, so all round a brilliant team performance,
