WINGET BOWLS CLUB. Mixed Friendly. 4th March 2020

Our final mixed friendly game against Winget Bowls Club was a great afternoon as usual with seven triples in play.   We were a little shaky at the beginning, but then went on to gain momentum winning 6 games and losing on 1 with a resounding victory of 166-78.  Winget had not played at Sevenoaks before but said they greatly enjoyed the afternoon and look forward to coming back next year.

SEVENOAKS INDOOR BOWLS CLUB – TEMPORARY CLOSURE

In the light of the latest Government advice the Directors have no alternative but to close the Club with immediate effect and for an indefinite period.

Current indications are that this closure will be for a considerable period and that all proposed activities and functions will now not take place.

We will keep the situation under close review and will immediately advise members of any change.   Please contact Richard Purssell on 01732 461510 if you need access to club to retrieve belongings.

It would be appreciated if you could relay this information to other members you know who do not have internet or email access.

We look forward to seeing you all again in the not too distant future.  In the meantime – keep safe and well.

Mother’s Day Carvery and Florence’s Chinese Meal – UPDATE.

It is with regret that due to insufficient numbers, understandably, we have decided to cancel both the Mother’s Day Carvery and Florence’s Chinese Meal.
However we hope, after the current health issues have subsided, these events will be re-arranged; watch your emails to keep up to date with Club affairs and events.

PRINCE ARTHUR. Ladies Kent League. Wednesday 11th March 2020

Prince Arthur Ladies   10
Sevenoaks    0
After having a good win against Prince Arthur  on our home ground two weeks ago the Sevenoaks Ladies set off to Gillingham for their return match . A number of the regular skips were unavailable and so several ladies found themselves playing out of position. Joan Moffat stepped up to skip her team of Dot Fuller, Linda George and Lynn Thomson, all of whom had a very good game leading until the 17th end when Prince Arthur got 7 shots. Joan’s team clawed back to draw on the 19th end but unfortunately lost 1 shot on the final two ends, so the final score and our best rink   19 -17, so a win for Prince Arthur
Sadly, the other 4 rinks couldn’t match the Prince Arthur Ladies on their home green.
Despite the score it was an enjoyable afternoon.

ASHFORD. Ladies Kent League. Saturday 7th March, 2020

SEVENOAKS LADIES 1/2 ASHFORD 9 1/2

100 SHOTS TO 124

Three and a half hours bowling for just half a point, we deserved better!

Sylvia Steifel was captain of the day against her former club and what a high scoring game it was on the captains rink.  24-29 in favour of Ashford, 53 shots in 21 ends.

Rosemary Tuck, making a welcome return to KL games and playing as skip, helped her team to a spirited performance.   In a very tight finish, Sevenoaks needing 5 shots on the final end to draw, gave the opposition a fright as the shots mounted up but finally only managing to score 4.  Anne Welch’s foursome went into the final end 12-12 but despite a valiant effort, could not prevent Ashford scoring a brace.
Linda George, Sally Garvey, Joan Moffat and Ann Munro were responsible for the half point drawing 16-16.   Shirley Christian played well in her debut KL game and we hope she will have enjoyed the experience enough to put her name down again.

SPRING FAIR THIS WEEKEND 14/15/16 MARCH
Just a quick reminder of our Spring Fair this weekend.  Please bring in your produce, plants, crafts etc to the Club on or before Saturday.  We also welcome Ladies and Gents clothes in good condition, nicely pressed if necessary  (we don’t want it to look like a jumble sale). Have a look through your wardrobe and see if there are any items you have not worn in a season or two or unwanted gifts ready to be re-gifted to us to sell for Club funds.  We are open Saturday and Sunday from 10 am and Monday 9 am so why not come along, enjoy a look round, maybe find a bargain and enjoy a coffee, cake etc.

CRIBBAGE? Do You Play?

Hello to all our members,

I have been asked about arranging a crib afternoon or evening for our members that play crib and would like to find out how many would be interested in taking part.
At the moment this would be a one-off but I am sure if it is successful something more permanent would be able to be arranged.
Please let me know if you’re interested derrick.rodger@gmail.com or see me at the club.
I will put a list up on a notice board at the club.

Prince Arthur. Ladies Kent League. Wednesday 26th February, 2020

SEVENOAKS LADIES 8 PRINCE ARTHUR 2

97 SHOTS TO 93

The Ladies have done it again, yet another victory in a five-rink match against visitors Prince Arthur.

Clare Jolley, Dot Fuller, Anne Welch and Brenda Bennett had a ‘magic’ afternoon, everything going their way in a resounding 28-7 win.   A 20-shot lead overall around the 15 end lulled the home team into a false sense of security.  Prince Arthur were slowly closing the gap and tension was creeping in.

Sylvia Riley, skipping for a change instead of leading, performed extremely well in her side’s 23-15 win, despite dropping 5 shots on the 20th end.   Ann Munro’s ladies dropped 10 shots over the last four ends to go down 21-26.  The gap was closing.   A 16-13 lead after 20 ends looked hopeful for victory but Margaret Elsdon’s team did not play a tight final end and it was left to Margaret with her final bowl to get her team out of the mire and ensure Sevenoaks scraped home 97-93.
